Sports Memorabilia Auction at the Showplace in Binghamton and on the Internet
Bob & Sallie Connelly will auction, without reserve, Sports Memorabilia including boxing, baseball, and
football items on Saturday, June 4, 2005, starting at 11:00 a.m., with a preview at 9:00 a.m. The auction
will be conducted simultaneously at the Showplace in Binghamton, NY and live on the internet via iCollector
and eBay Live Auctions. Included are hundreds of photographs, including W600 Sporting Life cabinet photos,
books, magazines, baseballs, footballs, bats, and other collectibles -- many signed or autographed -- and
many from the personal collection of Philadelphia boxer, John A. Oebbecke.
Mr. Oebbecke, who continued to box well into his sixties, left a collection of over 300 photographs and 400
books on boxing from 1870-1940 and sporting magazines from 1900-1960, including Police Gazette Sporting Annual,
Sports Illustrated (First edition with Topps baseball cards), Ring, and Baseball magazines. Many photographs
from 1890 to 1930 are autographed by the boxers and the referee. Included are photos of Jack Johnson, Jim Corbett,
Joe Walcott and Max Schmeling.
The auction also includes a set of 24 1902 Sporting Life W600 cabinet photographs of baseball icons, including
Cy Young, Christopher Matthewson, Hans Wagner, John McGraw, Napoleon LaJoie. Other items: 1959-60 pre-Super Bowl
game football signed by the Giants on one side, the Colts on the other; baseballs signed by Lou Gehrig and Babe
Ruth, the latter with COA; and a 1941 black bat celebrating the Yankees World Championship.
Bob and Sallie Connelly, whose business includes antiques, auctions, appraisals and an art gallery, have been
conducting auctions in the Binghamton, NY area for more than 30 years. This Sports Memorabilia Auction will be
held at their 40,000-square-foot Showplace auction facility at Binghamton Plaza. The Showplace is located at 33
West State Street, Binghamton, NY 13901-2461. The auction will be conducted simultaneously on the Internet via
